“A New Lease On Life”
Smoke’s visit was to be a routine teeth cleaning, but turned out to be much more. I was allowed to be present during the procedure. Dr Gilbert and Megan took x-rays first to determine what his teeth were like. They explained everything they did, including what was on the x-rays and what they were going to do. It was decided that he had four teeth that needed to come out. One was an easy pull, the others needed to be extracted and the holes stitched up. Megan first cleaned his teeth then assisted Dr. Gilbert in removing the diseased teeth. They worked on one tooth at a time, removing all the roots and then stitching up the holes. The whole time they were relaxed and explained everything to me. I had an interesting time observing the whole procedure. They made sure Smoke was warm and comfortable while “out”.
I was going to have his teeth cleaned prior to this but due to the other health problems Smoke had earlier, I decided to wait. I also need to mention that Dr. Gilbert, back in March 2010 detected a tumor in Smoke’s chest cavity and referred me to Dr. Berry at Timpanogos Animal Hospital in Pleasant Grove. They found a tumor in the chest cavity and also one in the para-thyroid gland. Both were removed successfully and after treatment for several months with vitamin D, Smoke has regained his energy and has re-grown all the fur he lost. I would like to thank everyone at Emery Animal for their help in getting Smoke back to health and giving him a new lease on life. I’m impressed with the quality of care given to Smoke and will continue to take him there for his health care needs.
Once again, thank you all for your concern and care.

A look of helplessness…
My poor dog Heidi was very sick. She was vomiting non stop on Wednesday night August 18th. I thought maybe she just had a bug, so I didn’t give her anything to eat or drink till I was able to take her into the vet the next day.During the night I could hear her pacing, I could tell she was just very uncomfortable. I woke up to a horrible smell. I went into the kitchen and there was blood from wall to wall. Poor Heidi was just standing there sad eyed and with a look of helplessness on her face. I checked the rest of the house for signs of blood or vomiting, and found a lot more blood in the living room. I, of course in a panic, called my regular vet, but to my disgust he never called back. Still to this day I haven’t heard from him. I knew that my Dad took his animals to Emery Animal Health so I called. This was around 6:30 am Thursday morning so I knew they weren’t open but I was hoping they had an emergency line and thank God they did. The phone rang and I got an answer right away and was told to bring Heidi in ASAP. Since the drive from my house to Castle Dale was a 45 minute drive I made sure I kept a close eye on Heidi.
We pulled over to let her out and she just kept losing so much blood! When we finally got to the office the staff was so attentive, and had a genuine concern for poor Heidi. She had to be poked and prodded so they could find out what was causing the hemorrhaging, but, thanks to the gentleness of the staff, Heidi let them do what they needed to do (keep in mind Heidi is a 95 lb Great Dane). After a couple of hours of blood labs and IV fluids Heidi slowly started making some improvements. The Dr. then said that Heidi would have to be hospitalized for a couple days. I was very worried not only because it was horrible to have to see my dog so miserable, but because she is basically my kid. During Heidi’s stay, I was updated as to what her condition was at least twice a day, and thankfully Heidi’s condition kept improving. Finally 2 days later I was able to take Heidi home! Since then she has become her old self, she is so happy and playful! I owe all of my thanks to entire staff at Emery Animal Health for taking such good care of Heidi and for treating her like she was one of their own pets. In my opinion there is no other place that is more caring and capable of taking care of pets in need and from now on, Emery Animal Health is the only place I will trust to take care of my Heidi.
